A loop is not a replay
When start and finish have the same name, the stage is presented as a loop. Crews return to an anchor point; that does not mean they drive the same track twice. The bivouac name and the exact shape of the timed route are different pieces of information.
A new town changes the day
A stage between towns moves the race and its travelling organisation. It is a reason to look at liaisons as well: the day extends beyond the competitive distance. For a spectator, it still does not identify an authorised access road.
The Bouârfa–Zagora example
The stage 4 description announces 490 timed kilometres on 14 January. It is a useful example of how to read distances: the timed section and the entire daily journey answer different questions. Our calendar lists the announced special-stage distances.
Follow the route without guessing access
Use this guide to understand progression, then consult public organiser instructions before travelling. A track appearing on a map or navigation app is not an invitation to enter the race route.
